Your dose of daily dealflow, essential VC & tech trends to know. The biggest moves in venture, all in one place. Celebrating startups, founders, and funders.

🧠 Everything You Need to Know Today
Anthropic just leapfrogged OpenAI without raising a cent. A handful of secondary trades priced the company at $1.2T — up 550% in a year — putting it ahead of OpenAI's ~$908B mark. Almost nobody's actually selling, which tells you everything about where demand sits right now.
Chips are the new oil, and Micron just proved it. A $250B commitment through 2035 for US memory plants is the clearest signal yet that AI's bottleneck has shifted from models to hardware.
Two of the biggest labs just ate almost half of all global VC. Anthropic and OpenAI alone pulled in $217B of the record $510B raised in H1 2026 — 43% of everything. If you're not in frontier AI, you're fighting over the other half.

📓 Read of the Day
Anthropic Passed OpenAI Without Raising a Dollar
Anthropic is now the most valuable private company in AI, and it got there on the secondary market. Its shares changed hands at a $1.2 trillion valuation on Caplight this week, a 550 percent jump over the past year that pushed it past OpenAI, which trades around $908 billion. The strange part is that almost no one is actually selling.
The Backstory
Anthropic's last primary round was a $65 billion Series H in late May that set its valuation at $965 billion. Since then, demand for a slice of the company has outrun supply so badly that special-purpose vehicles have become the main way to get a trade done. One securities executive said completed trades are rare because no one is willing to sell.
The Strategy
Anthropic filed confidentially for an IPO in early June, with a listing that could come as early as this fall. Going public would let early shareholders finally cash out and give the market its first real price for the company, instead of the thin secondary marks driving the $1.2 trillion figure today.
Why It Matters
A $1.2 trillion mark set by a handful of secondary trades is a number the public market has not tested yet. If Anthropic prices its IPO anywhere near it this fall, that becomes the benchmark every other frontier lab, including OpenAI, gets measured against.
